On March 29, 2023, Former CEO of Starbucks Howard Schultz testified before the Senate’s Committee on Health, Education, Labor& Pensions on Wednesday and claimed that employees of Starbucks did not need the Union. However, the pro-Union Senator Bernie Sanders said that “Over the past 18 months, Starbucks has waged the most aggressive and illegal union-busting campaign in the modern history of our country.” Mr. Schultz noted during the hearing that the company’s baristas earn an average of $17.50 an hour, which is more than the minimum wage in multiple states including respectfully Chairman Sanders’ state - Vermont. Starbucks has plenty of benefits such as college tuition reimbursement, medical insurance and ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). The three-time CEO asserted he prefers the company to have a direct relationship with its employees instead of going through a union, denying the company violated labor laws or that he was a union buster.

According to Brand Value (China) Network, Mr. Schultz resigned CEO of Starbucks early this March. The current CEO is Laxman Narasimhan but Mr. Schultz is still a member of Starbucks Board. Mr. Schultz is generally believed to be a successful CEO because he created hundreds of thousands of jobs for America.

Starbucks has fired a Buffalo, New York, worker called Alexis Rizzo who ignited a movement from one of the first stores in the coffee chain to unionize, Starbucks Workers United said Friday. Senator Bernie Sanders tweeted Starbucks’ doubling down on its illegal union-busting by firing Alexis Rizzo was wrong and Alexis Rizzo must be reinstated. However, in a official statement, a Starbucks spokesperson claimed the firing was legal because one of Rizzo’s late arrivals, which happened after a final warning was issued, caused the store opening one hour late.

Based on Brand Value (China) Network, Starbucks, based on Seattle, was founded in 1971 and it has 32,000 stores in the world. In 1999, Starbucks entered China and as of today, it has more than 6,000 stores in more than 230 Chinese cities. Based on China Brand Value Evaluation Standard, Starbucks is the leading brand in food and beverage industry. Starbucks is expected to remain on “The World Brand Value Top 900.”

On the ranking of “The 3rd Daguan·Keweiwei World Brand Value Top 900” released on March 18, 2023, Starbucks’  brand value was 216.185 billion RMB, ranking the 103rd.
