During French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to China, Airbus announced on April 6 an agreement to open a second A320 family final assembly line in Tianjin, China.

The European aircraft manufacturer opened its first assembly line in Tianjin in 2008, following the A320 family assembly line in Hamburg, Germany, Toulouse, France and Mobile, USA. Since then, Airbus has assembled more than 600 aircraft at its plants in China, and last month local Chinese airline Juneyao Airlines took delivery of the first A321NEO assembled in Tianjin. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury signed an agreement with the Tianjin Free Trade Zone Investment Corporation and China Aviation Industry Corporation to build a second final assembly line to expand the final assembly capacity of the A320 family. The agreement will contribute to Airbus' goal of increasing production rate for single-aisle aircraft to 75 per month by 2026.

Airbus also signed the terms of a general agreement with China Aviation Supplies Holding Company covering the purchase of 160 jets. This includes the previously announced order for 150 A320 narrow-body aircraft and 10 A350-900 wide-body aircraft.

Guillaume Faury said, "We are proud to continue our long-term partnership to support the development of China's civil aviation industry with our leading family of aircraft; helping the Chinese aviation market gain positive momentum for recovery and prosperity with Airbus' latest generation of eco-efficient aircraft, while realizing the aspiration for sustainable development.”

Airbus also signed a memorandum of understanding with the China Aviation Fuel Group (CNAF) to strengthen Sino-European cooperation in the production, competitive application and common standards development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). In September last year, the Chinese company signed a contract with Airbus to use SAF to support commercial flights and flight deliveries in China, leading to 17 flight deliveries and first commercial flights by the end of March.
