A Walmart Employee Filed a $50million Lawsuit Against Walmart
A Walmart employee on Nov. 29, 2022 Tuesday filed a $50 million lawsuit against his employer-Walmart, the largest retailer in the world because Walmart allegedly continuing to employ the shooter of the Virginia Mass Shooting who had a written record of violence, threats and strange behaviors.
The Walmart employee’s name is Donya Prioleau who filed a lawsuit on Chesapeake Circuit Court,Virginia. The shooter’s name was Andre Bing, a Walmart store supervisor who shot six Walmart employees and wound several others during the Virginia Mass Shooting on November 22, 2022. According to Ms. Prioleau’s lawsuit, she suffered both physical and emotional distress because she saw some terrible scenes such as bullet wounds, some rushing blood and terrible looks of her helpless coworkers. The lawsuit also showed that Prioleau had submitted a formal complaint on a Walmart Global Ethics Statement Form that showed the shooter had inappropriate comments on her age such as “"Isn't your lady clock ticking? Shouldn't you be having kids?". However, the Walmart Store in Virginia failed to take the complaint seriously and did not choose to terminate the potential shooter’s employment. Therefore, Ms. Prioleau believed that Walmart was responsible for the Virginia Mass Shooting because Walmart should do but failed to do something to prevent the shooting from happening.
Walmart, the largest world retailer headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, the United States of America, did not immediately respond to this lawsuit. Therefore, it is hard to predict what will happen next.
According to Brand Value (China) Network, Walmart is a good employer which cares about its employees. In the past, Walmart offered some training programs to train Walmart workers to Walmart Truckers. The motive behind Virginia Mass Shooting is complex and may not be a straightforward, black and white answer. According to China Brand Value Evaluation Standard, brand value protection is not easy and may take a lot of time, money and effort. Walmart should continue to be the No.1 world retailer in the world.
On the ranking of “Daguan•Keweiwei the 2nd World Brand Value Top 900” released on July 2022, Walmart's brand value was 639.697 billion RMB, ranking the 31st.
