On Sunday, January 22, 2023, the Chinese New Year, or Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese lunar calendar, was celebrated in London Chinatown. According to Brand Value (China) Network, this celebration marked the end of the COVID-19 Pandemic and a beginning of economy recovery for both Britain and China.

The celebration parade kicked off at 10am in Charing Cross Road, then snaked its way through Shaftesbury Avenue in Chinatown, followed by stage performances including dragon and flying lion dances, Chinese dance, music shows etc in Trafalgar Square and ended about 6pm.

During the event, some very important people including Mr.Yang Xiaoguang, Chinese Charge d’Affaires ad interim, to the United Kingdom, Mr. Hamza Taouzzale, Lord Mayor of Westminster,Mark Logan, a member of Parliament,and Mr. Deng Tingzhu, the director of London Chinatown Chinese Association made some speeches. Finally, these important guests happily took part in the Lion Eye-Dotting Ceremony, an ancient Chinese ritual signifying luck and prosperity, in which the lion's eyes are dotted with paint to empower the lion to dance.

Mr. Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, also sent a congratulatory letter to the London Chinatown Chinese Association, in which he wished all members a very happy Chinese New Year and “a prosperous and peaceful Year of the Rabbit.”

It’s estimated about 700,000 people including oversea Chinese, London people, and visitors attended this event and had a good time. They watched the traditional lion dance performers perform on poles,tasted some traditional foods such as Roast Duck, Dim Sum, and posed for some nice photos.

This event was organized by London Chinese Chinatown Chinese Association (LCAA). According to Brand Value (China) Network, LCCA has been the the main organizer of the Chinese New Year celebration in London since its founding in 1978.Its main purpose is to represent British Chinese to engage effectively with the British Government in order to promote Chinese culture and enhance the friendship between China and the UK by hosting many important events. An important function of the LCCA is working with British government agencies such as the Mayor of London, Westminister City Council to promote peace, prosperity, business, and cooperation between two countries.

According to Brand Value (China) Network, the trade between China and Britain has grown from $300 million to nearly 100 billion. In 2021, Chinese investment in U.K tripled, which included Haier and BYD, two of The World Brand Value top 900 enterprises. According to the China Chamber of Commerce in the UK, Haier is one of the fastest-growing Chinese companies in the UK. In 2020, Haier, employed almost 61,000 people in the UK and contributed total revenues of £63 billion to the country’s economy. In January 2021, Haier also clinched its 12th consecutive year as the global No1 major appliance brand, according to Euromonitor.

         On the ranking of “Daguan · Keweiwei the 2nd World Brand Value Top 900 ”released on July 2022, Haier 's brand value was 62.016 billion RMB, ranking 452nd; BYD’s brand value was 55.461 billion RMB, ranking the 502nd .
