Tesla Released Its First Car Advertisement
On May 23, 2023, Tesla, which has always emphasized "0 advertising and 0 marketing" released its first car advertisement on the Tesla Asia Twitter Account. This video is about 2 minutes long about a driver testimonial for Tesla Model 3 with a price of $47,000. The driver is called Felicia, a branch manager and a mother of two young children in Singapore who explains reasons for loving this car such as the car’s “Autosteer” feature, which helps keep her from swerving into other lanes when she’s tired from a long day of work and driving.
Elon Musk, the charismatic chief executive officer (CEO) of electric car maker Tesla, tweeted in 2019 that Telsa did not need advertise because he says demand for the vehicles outstrips supply. As a matter of fact, Tesla’s Model 3 graced the stage to be the world's best-selling EV for two years, 2020 and 2021 with a $0 advertising budget. He then added Tesla could use that money to make products great instead. For example, Tesla deploys external cameras to survey the environment, autopilot and 17-inch touchscreen display.
According to Brand Value (China) Network, Elon Musk’s Twitter purchase also may have changed his mind about the value of advertising. This is because that platform previously earned more than 90% of its revenue from advertising before Musk purchased it. Shortly after his purchase, Twitter has since seen advertisers flee the platform. Another thing that may help change Elon Musk’s mind is that there is a greater competition from world automakers such as BYD,Toyota, Volkswagen Group and General Motors etc that have devoted much of their advertising budget to electric vehicles. Based on China Brand Value Evaluation Standard, Tesla may increase its brand value by putting money on advertising.

The company got its name from Nikola Tesla, an inventor and electrical engineer. In 2004, Elon Musk became the largest shareholder of the company by a $6.5million investment and in 2008, he served as CEO. In 2019, Tesla established Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai, the first Gigafactory outside the United States. In April, 2023, it announced that it planned to build a new mega factory in Shanghai, which will be dedicated to manufacturing the company's energy-storage product Megapack.

Toyota’s brand value was 704.789 billion RMB, ranking the 18th.Tesla’s brand value was 430.528 billion RMB, ranking the 53rd. General Motor’s brand value was 308.505 billion RMB, ranking the 77th. BYD’s brand value was 206.219 billion RMB, ranking the 113rd.
