On Jun 15, 2023, Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens announced in Siemens Digital Economy Forum 2023 in Beijing that the Siemens planed to invest EUR140 million (USD154 million) to expand its digital factory in the city of Chengdu to seize opportunities in the fast-growing China market. According to Mr. Busch, Siemens will expand the factory, a twin factory of EWA (Electronics Works Amberg) in Germany, which produces world class industrial automation equipment and create 400 jobs. It is expected to help Siemens further strengthen its research and development and manufacturing capabilities in China.

According to Mr. Busch, China is the world's largest industrial market and its share of manufacturing output accounts for nearly 30 percent of that of the whole world. With the transformation to digitalization in all sectors, China has the potential to develop into "a leading market in driving the digitalization of the industry. The Chinese market is promoting digital transformation and sustainable development and and the comprehensive automation, digitalization, and low-carbon products and solutions launched by Siemens are very consistent with the needs of the Chinese market.
