On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the American semiconductor giant Intel confirmed that it would invest $25 billion to expand a chip factory in southern Israel. Expanded operations located in Kiryat Gat, 16 miles northeast of Gaza are planned to begin by 2028 and last through at least 2035, which will create thousands of jobs. The project will get a $3.2 billion grant from the Israel government.

        In June, 2023, Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced a preliminary version of the deal during a cabinet meeting, calling it “ the largest investment ever by an international company in Israel.” Mr. Netanyahu said “This is an expression of great confidence in the Israeli economy and exactly reflects the strength of the free economy that we have built here, and the technological economy that we are developing here.”

Daniel Benatar, co-general manager of Intel Israel, also made some positive comments “The growth of our Kiryat Gat manufacturing facilities is a tremendous source of pride for our employees in Israel, and a reflection of their unwavering commitment to excellence. Support from the Israeli government will enable us to continue building on that excellence to ensure that Israel remains a global center of semiconductor technology and talent.”

 According to Brand Value (China) Network, this investment is a part of Intel’s plan to reassert its position as the leader of the semiconductor industry. Back in 2020, Intel claimed that it would invest $ 20 billion to build two new chipmaking facilities in America and about $90 billion in Europe. Intel has four development and production sites in Israel. In 2017, Intel bought Israeli driver-assist technology startup Mobileye for $15.3 billion. In 2022, Intel attempted to buy Israel chipmaker Tower Semiconductor for $5.4 billion, but failed. As of today, Intel employs 11,700 people in Israel and has invested more than $50 billion in the country since the 1970s.

 In 1968, Intel was founded by Semiconductor pioneers Gordon Moore, Robert Noyce,  Arthur Rock. In 1971, Intel created the world's first commercial microprocessor chip. Intel also developed memory chips. In the 1980s, Intel remained the the primary and most profitable hardware supplier to the PC industry. In the 1990s, its line of Pentium processors had become a household name. As of today, Intel is one of the world's largest semiconductor chip manufacturers by revenue and one of the developers of the x86 series of instruction sets found in most personal computers .
