On August 19, 2023, Nissan said in documents by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA )that it is calling more than 236,000 compact sedans in the United States because the tie rods in front suspension can bend and break, possibly causing drivers to lose steering control.The recall include certain Sentra compact cars from the 2020 through 2022 model years. Because the main function of tie rods is to help vehicles move the wheels for steering, bent tie rods can break and affect the steering, increasing the risk of a crash. Car owners are advised to contact dealers if their steering wheel is off center or they feel a vibration. Car dealers will first inspect and replace any bent or broken tie rods. Once replacement parts are available, car dealers  will replace both the left and right tie rods at no cost to car owners. On October 5, 2023, the first notification letter will be mailed to car owners. A second letter will go out once replacement parts are expected to be available this coming winter.

       According to the Nissan documents, in the year of 2021, many of the same vehicles were recalled because of the same problem. Cars repaired under the previous recall also need to get new tie rods. The automaker also says it is aware of 91 reports of broken or bent tie rods and 5 crashed that may be related to the problem, but there have been no reports of injuries.
